Grade(s) and subject(s) you teach
6th grade math and science
Why did you decide to go into teaching?
I have been drawn to teaching since I was in first grade. The idea of helping others understand a concept and seeing that 'lightbulb' moment is what makes me so passionate.
In what ways do your students make you proud?
My students make me proud every day they say they "get it". So many people hate math, and so far, none of my students have said it (to my face!)
What personal or professional accomplishments are you most proud of?
Earning an award for Millikan Math Academy in 2010 and returning to teach at Millikan a decade later.
What is the title of the last book you read?
What is your favorite quote/saying? Feel free to elaborate on its meaning to you.
"I don't know where I'm going, but I am on my way" - Voltaire
It shows that it is okay to feel lost, because life is not about being somewhere specific, it's about the fact that you'll get where you need to be someday.
What do you hope students will be able to accomplish in the future with the skills they have learned from you?
I hope my students will be able to self-teach themselves math concepts rather than shy away from them.
Is there anything else you would like to share?
I want nothing more than my students to feel proud of themselves for whatever they accomplish. If my students take pride in what they accomplish, then I know I have done my job.
